County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill six vacancies on the Committee on Hate/Violence. Members must be County residents.
The Committee consists of 15 voting members who are County residents, and six ex-officio, non-voting members from government agencies, including Montgomery County Public Schools and Montgomery College. The voting members reflect the geographic, economic, and social diversity of the County, with at least nine members identified with target groups frequently victimized by hate/violence. At least two members are parents of school-age children and at least one member represents the business community.
The Committee develops and distributes information about hate/violence in the county and promotes the positive value of ethnic and social diversity. The Committee advises the County Executive, County Council, and County agencies about hate/violence in the county, and recommends policies, programs, legislation, or regulations to help reduce the incidence of such acts.
Members serve three-year terms without compensation, but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. Meetings are held the second Wednesday evening of the month at 7:00 PM in Rockville.
Applicants of diverse backgrounds, professions, gender, geography, disability and ethnicity are encouraged to apply. An application, consisting of a brief cover letter and resume, should be sent by mail to County Executive Isiah Leggett, 101 Monroe Street, 2nd Floor, Rockville, MD 20850, or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Home and employment addresses, as well as contact phone numbers and email addresses should be included. If appropriate, applicants should indicate the position for which they are applying. The deadline for application is January 11, 2013.
Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time. Leggett’s appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.
