County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill one business representative vacancy on the Workforce Investment Board.
The Workforce Investment Board advises the County Executive on the administration of the federal Workforce Investment Act of 1998 and oversees workforce development programs and services serving more than 14,000 residents per year.
The Workforce Investment Board is composed of 30 members. Sixteen members are representatives of businesses who are business owners, chief executives, or other business executives or employers with optimal policymaking or hiring authority, and represent businesses with a workforce that reflects employment opportunities in Montgomery County; three members represent community-based organizations, including those that provide services to people with disabilities and other human service organizations; and two members who are representatives of organized labor. Other members include a representative of Montgomery County Public Schools, Montgomery College, a four-year educational institution of higher learning; Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services, the Housing Opportunities Commission, Department of Health and Human Services, the Maryland and Montgomery County Departments of Economic Development; an agency administering Title V of the Older Americans Act, and the Maryland Job Service.
Members serve three-year terms without compensation, but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. Meetings are held quarterly on Wednesday mornings. Members are expected to serve on at least one committee or work group that meets approximately once a month.
Applicants of diverse backgrounds, professions, gender, geography, disability and ethnicity are encouraged to apply. An application, consisting of a brief cover letter and resume, should be sent by mail to County Executive Isiah Leggett, 101 Monroe Street, 2nd Floor, Rockville, MD 20850, or by email to email@example.com. Home and employment addresses, as well as contact phone numbers and email addresses should be included. If appropriate, applicants should indicate the position for which they are applying. The deadline for application is January 25, 2012.
Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time. Leggett’s appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.
