Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill one vacancy on the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, for a full term expiring May 31, 2017. No more than two Commissioners from Montgomery County may be from the same political party. The Democratic incumbent is expected to apply for reappointment.
Applicants must be registered to vote in Montgomery County and must reside in the Washington Suburban Sanitary District in Montgomery County. A list of the names of applicants will be available for public inspection until the County Executive makes appointments.
The six-member Commission, consisting of three members from Montgomery County and three from Prince George’s County, works to regulate the public water supply, pollution control, plumbing and gas fittings, and wastewater treatment.
Members receive an annual compensation of $13,000. Scheduled meetings are held approximately every three weeks on Wednesdays for a full day. There are also special meetings, work sessions, budget briefings and public hearings scheduled as necessary. Appointees are required to complete a State public financial disclosure statement and to be interviewed by the County Attorney’s Office to determine any conflict of interest.

Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time. Leggett’s appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.
