About the Library:

Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) has provided library services to the Town of Poolesville and surrounding communities since 1954. From 1954 to 1978, library services were provided by MCPL’s Bookmobile. In 1978, MCPL embarked upon a partnership with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) to provide library services to the public at what was then the Poolesville Junior/Senior High School Media Center (now Poolesville High School). The newly created Western County Regional Library (WCRL) served the general public after school hours and on weekends. (Adult Fiction and some other materials were kept sequestered when school was in session.)

By 1980, within two years of its opening, the demand for library services from the WCRL was already outgrowing the limited space and hours provided by the shared media center. At that time, a push began to find the library its own space within the community. During this same time, MCPL began to redefine the concept of regional libraries, and, in early 1984, Western County Regional Library was renamed Poolesville Library.

In 1991, Poolesville Library moved into a leased storefront in the Poolesville Towne Center, one of two shopping centers being built within the town limits. In late 2000, the library was closed for renovation and expansion before reopening in the spring of 2001. The expansion created space for additional materials as well as a meeting room for library and community events. With over 6,000 square feet of space, Poolesville Library provides a wide-range of library services, including adult, young adult, and children’s materials; storytimes; a book group; seasonal tax assistance; and other community programming.

Facilities: 1 meeting room, 24-hour bookdrop.

Computers: 5 computers, Wi-Fi, copiers/printer. About MCPL's public computers.
