 NIST in support of a new National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence



Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett, Maryland Lt. Governor Anthony Brown, U.S. Senator for Maryland Barbara Mikulski, and Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and NIST Director Patrick Gallagher, signed a Memorandum of Understanding Tuesday at NIST in support of a new National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence, for which Senator Mikulski secured a $10 million appropriation in NIST’s fiscal year 2012 budget to establish. The County’s Dept. of Economic Development willl help NIST find a location for the new Center in the County. NIST researchers will use the Center to work with both the users and vendors of cybersecurity products and services in an effort to support private sector job growth in this fast-growing industry.
