 Recycling Awareness Week

Celebrating Recycling Awareness Week, County Executive Ike Leggett (2nd from right) announced the establishment of a new recycling rate goal for Montgomery County – 70% by 2020 -- at the annual Recycling Achievement Recognition Ceremony held at the Silver Spring Civic Building. This is the first new rate goal announced in nearly 20 years. Joining the Executive for a Proclamation presentation proclaiming Recycling Awareness Week were (from left) Bob Hoyt, Environmental Protection director; Eileen Kao, chief of the Waste Reduction and Recycling Section of the Division of Solid Waster Services (DSWS); County Councilmember Hans Riemer, Leggett; and Dan Locke, DSWS chief.  Each year, DSWS hosts a series of events throughout Recycling Awareness Week to educate school children to the benefits of recycling and to recognize outstanding achievements in recycling by individual volunteers and the community, multi-family property and business sectors.
