Montgomery County Launches New Campaign to Address Panhandling

County Executive Ike Leggett and County Council member George Leventhal announced a new initiative to address panhandling in the County and improve safety. “Give a Hand-Up, Not a Hand-Out” encourages people to text donations to social service charities rather than giving cash to street-side panhandlers soliciting cash for personal use. Joining Leventhal and Leggett were Director of Catholic Charities Monsignor John Enzler, Executive Director of Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless Susan Sinclair-Smith, and Executive Director of Bethesda Cares Susan Kirk. Speakers not pictured included Director of the MCPD Traffic Division Captain Thomas Didone and HHS Manager of Adult Shelter Services Kim Ball. Website and press release for more details.
