PROCEDURE FOR ISSUANCE OF MARRIAGE LICENSE IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MARYLAND
Application for marriage license must be made in person by one of the contracting parties in the License Department (Room 111) of the Circuit Court. When you make application for your license, you will be given the marriage license the same day. You will not be able to use the license for FORTY-EIGHT (48) HOURS. The ceremony can be performed at any time within SIX (6) months after the issue date.
Office hours are from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday with the exception of Holidays.
Both the Groom and the Bride must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
Social Security Numbers are required and will be kept confidential.
Marriage Ceremony MUST be performed in Montgomery County. Civil ceremonies are performed by the Clerk of the Circuit Court from 9:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M., Monday through Friday, APPOINTMENTS ONLY. RELIGIOUS CEREMONIES can be done anywhere in MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MARYLAND.
The fee for the Marriage License is $55.00 for both residents and non-residents of Maryland. The fee for Civil Ceremony is $25.00.
At the time of application, we require I.D. for both parties, such as Driver’s License, Birth Certificate, Passport, Military I.D., or Alien Registration Card. If either party has been married before, we need proof of termination of his/her most recent divorce.
Non-Resident Marriage Application: A non-resident marriage application is available upon request. It is intended for Non-Residents of Maryland who plan to marry in Montgomery County Maryland. This form can be completed by Non-Residents of the State and mailed to this office at least 48 hours prior to the wedding. Instructions are included with the application.
