Citizen Community Emergency Response Training Offered
Become a Community Safety Advocate
Montgomery County is looking for a few local residents to get involved in some unique safety training!! We are looking for proactive citizens who are interested in becoming Community Safety Advocates and front-line assistants during emergencies in their communities. The program is modeled after the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) program that was originally developed by the Los Angeles Fire Department in 1985. The Montgomery County CERT participants will attend 6 classes over a 2-week period, meeting two nights a week with two all day Saturday session to include a practical and test day. At the end of the training, participants will be empowered with the following knowledge and abilities:
- Identifying and mitigating potential hazards in the home and workplace.
- Initiating plans to prepare themselves and their loved ones for the hazards that they face.
- Learning skills to help themselves, loved ones, and neighbors or fellow employees until professional response resources arrive.
- Working cooperatively as a team within their neighborhoods or workplaces.
- Maintaining a relationship with the agency that sponsors the CERT program.
- Participating in continuing education and training.
- Volunteering for projects to enhance the public safety of their communities.

Class Dates and Times:
Takoma Park/Silver Spring area (open to all county residents)
CERT Class #2006-01: January 31 - February 11, 2006
You must attend every session to become certified.
- Tuesdays - January 31& February 7
- Time: 7pm - 9:30pm

- Time: 7pm - 9:30pm
- Location: The Heffner Community Center, 42 Oswego Ave., Takoma Park, MD - Saturday - February 4
- Time: 9am - 5pm
