Accepting Applications For Employment For Fire Fighter (Recruit)

A National Leader in Injury Prevention and Delivery of All Hazards Emergency Services

From Monday, January 2 to Friday, January 20, 2006 the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service will open the application process for the position of Firefighter/Rescuer I – Recruit.

Applicants who possess a National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician – Intermediate 1999 (NREMT-I) or Paramedic (NREMT-P) certification may receive preference.

Applicants who possess these certifications may be required to sign an agreement requiring them to obtain Montgomery County Advanced Life Support (ALS) Certification. All Montgomery County, Maryland certified ALS employees receive an annual pay differential of $3,000 plus and additional $1.50 per hour when assigned to a transport unit.

The projected salary for the first year of employment is as follows:

Starting salary will be $37,714. A general wage increase, while in training, will increase salary to $38,092. Another general wage increase plus an annual step increase occur by the end of your first year, raising your salary to $41,397. Promotion to Firefighter/Rescuer II may also be obtained at the completion of your first year of employment, raising your salary to $43,467. Add to that the ALS differential of $3,000 per year and your salary can increase to $46,467 which is a raise of over 20% in your first year! When you include a shift differential of $1.50 an hour and eight paid holidays, your salary can increase another $3,500 to nearly $50,000 a year!

Montgomery County will also pay you for your continuing education at our Public Safety Training Academy and handle your National Registry recertifi cation paperwork and fees!
