District Man Arrested for Insurance Fraud

Stolen Vehicle Set on Fire

After a 6 month long investigation a 36 year old District man has been arrested by Montgomery County Fire and Explosive Investigators for his involvement in a vehicle fire that occurred in the early morning of October 12, 2005. Jessie L. Turner, age 36, a resident of the 6200 block of Eastern Avenue, NE, Washington, D.C. was arrested without incident at his residence on Thursday night, April 13, 2006. Montgomery County Fire and Explosive Investigators were assisted by the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C.

Fire Investigators believe the 2004 Nissan 350Z was stolen from the 5800 block of 3rd Street, NE, Washington, D.C. shortly after midnight on October 12, 2005. Around 6:15 p.m. on that date units from the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service responded to a car fire in the 6500 block of Poplar Avenue, Takoma Park. The vehicle was reported stolen and was heavily damaged.

Montgomery County Fire and Explosive Investigators determined the vehicle had been intentionally set on fire using ignitable liquids. A person of interest was identified and after an investigation of various records and several interviews it was revealed that Mr. Turner was less than truthful with law enforcement officers and had attempted to situate himself to allegedly prosper financially from the loss of the vehicle that was found burning.

Mr. Turner is being charged with Conspiracy to Commit Second Degree Arson, Making a False Statement to Police Officers and Burning to Defraud an Insurer.
