13-Year Old Arrested for Arson
Burtonsville Youth Set Vehicle on Fire
A thirteen (13) year-old Burtonsville youth has been arrested and charged for his involvement with setting a car on fire this morning, December 11, 2006 on Castle Boulevard, in the Briggs Chaney area of Burtonsville.
Around 7:15 a.m. on that date units from the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service were dispatched for an auto fire at 14015 Castle Boulevard. First arriving firefighters encountered a 1998 Toyota 4-Runner vehicle fully involved in flame. Damage was total and is estimated to be approximately $15,000.
The circumstances of the vehicle fire were suspicious. Montgomery County Fire and Explosive Investigators were called to the scene. Witnesses provided information that led to a person of interest. A short time later Montgomery County Fire and Explosive Investigators arrested a 13-year old male. He lives in the area.
The youth has been charged with Second Degree Arson, Malicious Burning over $1,000 and Malicious Destruction of Property. He charges are being processed in conjunction the Department of Juvenile Justice.
