2006 Toys For Tots to Make Special Delivery to Children's Hospital
Region’s fire service lending a helping hand to U.S. Marines
Firefighters representing the National Capital Region, accompanied by the U.S. Marines, will make a special delivery of toys to the Children’s National Medical Center, in Washington, D.C. on Friday, December 22, 2006 as part of the 2006 Toys for Tots program sponsored nationally by the U.S. Marines. Fire station’s throughout the Washington area, or the National Capital Region, have been accepting and collecting toys along with Wal-mart, Nissan Car dealerships, Suntrust Banks and many other local businesses to support the U.S Marines and the Toys for Tots.
Thousands of new, unwrapped toys will be delivered by firefighters from the District of Columbia Fire Department, Fairfax County (VA) Fire and Rescue and the Montgomery County (MD) Fire and Rescue Service around 12 noon on Friday, December 22, 2006 to the staff of Children’s Hospital to be used for families of children currently being treated during the holiday season and beyond. Families of sick and inured children unable to shop during the busy holiday will have gifts brought to them for their choosing to eventually be wrapped and delivered to their loved ones.
Again, this year fire departments throughout the National Capital Region have been participating in the annual ‘Toys for Tots’ toy drive sponsored by the United States Marines. Working together we are sure to make many area family’s holiday season a lot brighter.
The ‘Toys for Tots’ campaign is one of the nation's flagship Christmas charitable causes and the only charitable endeavor within the Department of Defense that reaches outside the military to give something back to the communities from which the nation draws the young men and women who serve in the armed forces of the United States of America. Knowing the U.S. Marines resources are depleted for this effort, the Nation’s Capital region fire service is proud to lend a helping hand.
This charitable endeavor has made U.S. Marines the unchallenged leaders in looking after needy children during the holiday season, particularly at Christmas. The National Capital Region’s local fire and rescue service looks to support these efforts in any way possible.
