Fire and Police Investigators Seek Public's Help - Call Arson Tip Line @ 240.777.2263
At least four (4) vehicle fires share some similarities and are suspicious in nature. Around 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 units from the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service responded to intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Denfield Road, in Rockville for the report of a car on fire. Firefighters arrived to find the engine compartment of mini-van on fire with some extension into the passenger area.
A short time later, around 2:30 a.m. fire and rescue units were dispatched to the 15600 Indianola Drive, in the Rockville area, for a car fire. About 2:45 a.m. other fire and rescue units were sent to the 500 block of Victory Farm Road, in Gaithersburg for a car on fire and yet additional crews responded to a vehicle fire just before 4:00 a.m. in the 13600 block of Cherrydale Drive, in the Lakewood Estates neighborhood, in North Potomac.
All the fires are geographically located within a few miles of each other and occurred in a relatively short period of time between 1:30 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. on the same day. Montgomery County Fire and Explosive Investigators believe that there are several similarities, including most vehicles were parked curb-side and near an intersection.
The fires involved the engine compartment and extended into the passenger area of the vehicles involved. Total damage is estimated to be at least $40,000.
Fire and Police Investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding these fires and other recent incidents that may have occurred in the same general area.
There are several similarities that are being investigated.
