Effort is a Success - Thousands of Illegal Fireworks are Off the Streets

In Montgomery County, dozens of local residents turned in fireworks this past weekend as part of the Montgomery County Fireworks Amnesty program. Over fifteen thousand (15,000) fireworks pieces, weighing more than 500 pounds, were collected this year during the amnesty period (3 days).

Residents could participate in the special amnesty period without fear of being arrested or fined the weekend prior to the 4th of July as well as the Saturday following the mid-week celebration. Several dozens of Montgomery County residents took advantage of this amnesty and dropped off illegal fireworks at select locations in Wheaton-Glenmont and Gaithersburg. There were NO fireworks related injuries reported in Montgomery County during the holiday period.
