Fire Fighter Recruits to Graduate

Forty-Seven Recruits Complete Training

Forty-seven (47) new Montgomery County fire and rescue recruits will graduate after completing a comprehensive twenty-one week fire fighting and emergency medical technician training program at the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Academy, in Rockville.  Recruit Class #32 graduation ceremonies will take place on Friday, August 15, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Northwest High School, in Germantown, Maryland.

As a firefighter/rescuer recruit, fire and rescue personnel have passed a background check, a written examination, physical examinations and completed a rigorous candidate physical agility test or C.P.A.T.  Their twenty-one week training included fire fighting and rescue operations, emergency medical training, emergency vehicle operation, along with numerous other subjects such as hazardous materials, life-safety education as well as fire and injury prevention.  Upon completion the recruits are fully trained and certified as Fire Fighter/Rescuers with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service. The basic salary for a firefighter recruit begins at about $43,000.

The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) is a full spectrum life safety agency protecting nearly 1 million people who live and work in Maryland’s most populous jurisdiction.  The MCFRS is a combination system (career/volunteer) comprised of over 1200 career uniformed personnel and civilian support staff and an equal number of volunteers, nearly half of whom actively participate in emergency response.  There are over forty fire and rescue facilities, including a 56 acre training academy, state-of-the-art communication facility, as well as thirty-four neighborhood fire and rescue stations strategically located throughout  Montgomery County’s 500 square miles.  The next Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Recruit Class (RC#33) is scheduled to begin in September.
