Fire Fighters Promote Pedestrian Safety and Healthy Walking
Celebrate International Walk to School Day - Wednesday, October 8, 2008
Montgomery County will celebrate International Walk to School Day as children, parents, teachers and community members walk to Piney Branch Elementary School. Following a news conference, Piney Branch students will gather in the gym for an assembly on safe walking. This special program will include students, fire and rescue speakers and other safety advocates.
The news conference will focus on pedestrian safety, parent and child participation and staying fit and healthy by walking.
The event will be attended by local and State elected officials, Superintendent Dr. Jerry Weast, Principal Bertram Generlette, Assistant Fire Chief Greg DeHaven and local police and firefighters. At least 20 other Montgomery County elementary schools, including thousands of students are participating in this county-wide program. Firefighters will be at many of the other schools throughout Montgomery County.
