Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett, County Council President Michael Knapp and Fire Chief Thomas W. Carr, Jr. will join Takoma Park Mayor Bruce Williams and other officials to break ground for a new facility to house Takoma Park Fire Station #2.  Founded in 1894 and incorporated in 1922, the Takoma Park Volunteer Fire Department is Montgomery County’s oldest.  The station serves the City of Takoma Park, other down-county areas, as well as neighboring parts of Prince George’s County and the District of Columbia under the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments mutual aid plan.

The Takoma Park Fire Station renovation is scheduled for completion in 2010. They have operated from their current location since 1931 the longest of any current local Montgomery County fire station.
