Firefighters Fill the Boot For MDA

Rockville, Maryland - - -  Montgomery County firefighters will launch their annual Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) “Fill the Boot” campaign on Wednesday, September 1st and will wrap up on Friday, September 3rd.

“Montgomery County firefighters extend a special thank you to each and every person that has donated to the campaign in the past,” said Chief Richie Bowers. “We are grateful for each generous contribution to this important cause and are very proud to serve this great community.”
Donations help to support MDA services and research programs and firefighters across the country participate in this annual event and the kick-off marks the official opening of the 2010 Labor Day Weekend campaign. Montgomery County firefighters will be collecting in high traffic areas and intersections throughout Montgomery County for “Jerry’s Kids.”

This year marks the 26th Anniversary that Montgomery County Fire Fighters and Local 1664 have participated in Fill the Boot for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Last year Montgomery County Fire Fighters were first in the State and placed fourth for the highest collecting fire service organization in the country.

“I would like to thank each firefighter who will be putting their ‘feet in the streets’ for Jerry's kids over the next three days,” said John J. Sparks, President, International Association of Firefighters, Local 1664. “While none of us knows what the future may hold, hopefully because of these efforts, we can find a cure for this debilitating disease.”
