Special Delivery on Interstate 270
Rockville, MD - - - Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service units were dispatched at
6:55 this morning for the report of a woman in labor on I-270 just prior to Montrose Road. As the father spoke with a 911 dispatcher requesting help, it became clear that the baby wasn’t going to wait for rescue crews to show up.
Dispatcher Jamie Nottingham quickly and calmly coached the father-to-be with precise instructions on how to safely deliver the baby. Fire and Rescue crews arrived on the scene moments after the delivery and assisted with post-delivery procedures as well as traffic control on the busy and icy interstate.
