Fire Crews Preparing for Heavy Rains

Media Invited to Ride Along with Firefighters

Rockville - - - As the area braces for the predicted heavy rains and possible flooding over the next 24 hours, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue crews are prepared and keeping a strategic watch on areas in the County prone to high water and flood risks.

Fire Chief Richard Bowers is extending an invitation to media to “ride along” with fire and rescue personnel at several fire stations around the County. Media are invited to respond with units on Thursday, March 10, 2011 beginning at 7 am. Below are several stations identified that would typically respond to the types of calls associated with the weather predicted in the metropolitan area:

Station 4: 17921 Brooke Road, Sandy Spring
Station 10: 8001 River Road, Bethesda
Station 25: 14401 Connecticut Avenue, Aspen Hill
Station 30: 9404 Falls Road, Potomac
Station 34: 20633 Boland Farm Road, Germantown

There are limited spaces and this opportunity is first-come, first-served. Any interested media are required to reserve a space by Wednesday, March 9th at 6:00 p.m.The work and activities of fire and rescue is  inherently dangerous. Media will be briefed in advance in regard to expectations, incident and patient confidentiality and the strict adherence to all safety procedures and protocols. Media are  encouraged to dress for the weather and will be required to sign a release and indemnification agreement prior particpation to any Ride Along.
