Prestigious NFPA Scholarship Awarded to Captain Penny Ingles

Rockville - - -  The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Fire Safety Educational Memorial Fund Committee has awarded the prestigious 2011 George D. Miller scholarship to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service Captain Penny Ingles. Captain Ingles is pursuing her Bachelor of Science Degree in fire science and the scholarship will assist in advancing her educational goals as she begins her final year towards her degree.
The scholarship is awarded to a student in fire safety or public administration program and is presented to honor former NFPA and CEO George D. Miller who retired from the NFPA Board of Directors and left an impressive legacy of leadership in the fire world. Scholars are selected on the basis of academic merit and leadership in fire safety and injury prevention programs and Captain Ingles’ successfully competed among a national pool of scholars.

“It is an honor to share in this achievement,” says Fire Chief Richard Bowers. “While this prestigious honor recognizes Captain Ingles’ hard work and academic achievements, it also serves as a foundation for continuing to provide community service to those who can benefit most in Montgomery County.”
