Local Firefighters Gear Up for 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Saturday

Fire Chief Richard Bowers and Area FireFighters Step Up

Rockville - - -  As the 10-year anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks approaches local police officers and firefighters will climb 110 stories, the equivalent of the World Trade Center, many wearing over 60 pounds of firefighting equipment as a tribute to honor the 343 fallen colleagues who died in New York on September 11th.

The event will take place on Saturday, August 20th at the North Bethesda Market beginning at 8:30 a.m. Since there is not a building 110 stories in Montgomery County, firefighters will modify the event and make the climb four times and then add 10 stories at the end to replicate the World Trade Center’s 110 stories.

The event, organized by Montgomery County Firefighter TJ Monahan, will also serve as a fundraiser for the Burn Foundation. The community is invited to come out and watch this inaugural firefighter climb event to be held in the Washington Metropolitan area.
