Linkages to Learning, a Collaborative School-based Partnership among the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, Montgomery County Public Schools, Public and Private Agencies, Families and Communities

  The Service Model
  A comprehensive school-based health and human service program based on a holistic approach to prevention and early intervention. Linkages to Learning assists families and students by providing or referring to services to help children in school, at home, and in the community.
   
  Services
  A variety of mental health, health, social and educational support services are made available to address the possible barriers to learning. Each Linkages to Learning site develops its own unique combination of activities based on the resources and needs within the community.
   
  Mental Health Services
 
  • mental health assessments
  • individual/group child, parent, and family counseling
  • consultation with school staff and other agencies
  • in-service trainings for teachers
  Health Services
 
  • delivery of routine school health services (including first aid and emergency care for sick and injured students)
  • medication and treatment administration
  • hearing and vision screening
  • referral and case management for children with physical and medical issues
  • health counseling and health education
  • assistance to help parents access health care in the community
  Social Services
 
  • family needs assessments
  • assistance obtaining clothing, furniture, food, housing, etc.
  • assistance with legal/immigration, medical/dental and employment needs
  • translation and transportation assistance
  • assistance accessing day care and summer camp programs
  • food/clothing/toy and book drives
  • community-wide summer events
  • after-school and evening recreation programs
  • acculturation workshops
  Educational Support
 
  • academic tutoring for students
  • mentoring
  • adult education classes (e.g. ESOL, literacy)
   
  Linkages to Learning School-Based Health Center Services
  Linkages to Learning School-Based Health Centers provide comprehensive, primary health care, mental health care, social and educational support services at Harmony Hills and Broad Acres Elementary Schools in Silver Spring, Maryland.

  School Health Services Center
  The School Health Services Center, co-located with MCPS'
International Student Admission Office at Rocking Horse Road,
provides immunizations and TB testing of all newly enrolling MCPS
international students.
