Save the date! Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans 4th Annual Reunion - April 22nd, 2013 - 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building. Featuring keynote speaker Max Cleland, Vietnam Veteran, Secretary, American Battle Monuments Commission, former Georgia Senator, and former Administrator, U. S. Veterans Administration. Reception and light refreshments begin at 5:00 p.m. Program will begin at 6:00 p.m. Veterans of every era and members of the general public are welcome and encouraged to attend. Veterans are encouraged to wear their military uniform or veteran organization attire.

"Still Serving" - Video interview with Commission Chair Bill Gray. The program is designed to provide an inside look at veterans who are "Still Serving" other veterans. The video has been shared with over 300 Veterans Administration facilities throughout the country.

The Montgomery County Commission on Veterans Affairs was established by County legislation in 2008 with the goal of the Commission to provide advice to the Executive and Council on the status of programs and services related to the needs of Veterans. Veterans have made an important contribution to the community by their service in the Armed Forces of this Nation, and Montgomery County is committed to showing its commitment and support for all veterans and their families. Press Release - Leggett Introduces Legislation to Establish Veterans Commission, June 8th, 2008

Bill 23-08 - Original Legislation - Introduced June 10th, 2008. Effective November 3rd, 2008. Establishment of the Commission.

Bill 34-08 - Amended Legislation - Introduced October 28th, 2008. Effective December 10th, 2008. Increased the number of voting members on the Commission.

Bill 52-10 - Amended Legislation - Introduced October 26th, 2010. Effective March 10th, 2011. Altered the membership of the Commission on Veterans Affairs to include the President of Montgomery College or the President's designee as a designated ex officio member.

Commission Meetings

The meetings of the Commission on Veterans Affairs are open to the public. Meetings are held at 401 Hungerford Drive, Rockville, MD in the 1st Floor Tan Conference Room from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month, except in July* and August*. An Annual Planning Meeting of the Commission is held at an offsite location for the purpose of setting goals for the year's activity. As possible, we adjust meeting dates in order to accommodate days of major religious observances. Meetings of the Commission are cancelled when Montgomery County Schools are closed due to inclement weather. Please contact the office to confirm meetings.
