What is the Autism Waiver?
The Maryland Home and Community Based Services Waiver for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder is a Medical Assistance Waiver Program that allows for eligible children to receive services in their community and at home instead of an institution type setting. Services may include: environmental accessibility adaptations, family training, intensive individual support services, residential habilitation, respite care, supported employment, and/or therapeutic integration services.
What is the Autism Waiver Service Coordination?
Community Support Network's Autism Waiver Service Coordination program provides service coordination to children diagnosed with autism, who are currently enrolled in the Maryland State Department of Education's Autism Waiver. The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, Community Support Network is contracted by the Montgomery County Public School system to provide case management, called Service Coordination, for children enrolled in the Autism Waiver.
How does a child receive Service Coordination?
In order to obtain Service Coordination, a child must be approved for the Autism Waiver through Montgomery County Public Schools and the Maryland State Department of Education, Division of Special Education, Early Intervention Services. Once a child is enrolled in the Autism Waiver, Montgomery County Public Schools will refer the child to the Community Support Network for Service Coordination Services.
How does a child apply for the Autism Waiver?
The Autism Waiver serves 900 children each year across the State of Maryland. Every July 1st a number of "slots" are filled through attrition. These slots are offered on a first come first serve basis through the Autism Waiver Registry. In order to access the registry, call 1-866-417-3480. The registry will notify families when the child is able to apply for an available slot.
