SPOTLIGHT

The Home Depot Foundation Seeks Proposals for Veteran Housing Projects – Expects to fund several grants ranging from $100,000 to $500,000. Deadline is May 31st, 2013.

DOD Transition Assistance Program - Ease the transition of active duty military personnel, civilian employees, and family members from government service to private sector. Transition services include counseling, information on education options, computerized job banks, resume writing assistance, and help with the employment interviewing process. All transition services are available to military spouses and family members, without restriction. Services are provided on major military installations by Transition Assistance Offices. The Commission on Veterans Affairs 2012 Annual Report is now available.

"Still Serving" - Video interview with Commission Chair Bill Gray. The program is designed to provide an inside look at veterans who are "Still Serving" other veterans. The video has been shared with over 300 Veterans Administration facilities throughout the country.

July 17, 2012: Community Council for the Homeless at Friendship Place was recently awarded a Supportive Services for Veterans and Families grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs to serve 560 veterans households in the DC and metro areas, including Montgomery and Prince George's Counties and Virginia. CCHFP will provide at-risk, low-income eligible Veteran families with outreach, case management, and assistance in obtaining VA and other benefits.
