This is an educational toolkit that was originally targeted to the senior citizen population.  However, due to the friendly format, Montgomery County launched it as a county-wide campaign in September 2005.  The toolkit includes a poster with a take-away brochure which emphasizes preparing a disaster kit with at least 9 items, of which preparing a disaster kit is one step.

Goal: Plan to Be Safe Campaign toolkit will increase the ability among a target audience to plan and prepare for any emergency in the community.

Objectives: Use of this tool will allow a public health professional to:
1) increase self-efficacy among the target audience on the three steps of emergency preparedness:      1. have a conversation, 2. Make a plan and 3. Make a kit with 9 essential items.
2) collaborate with community organizations.

Each product within the toolkit is also available in a downloadable format that will allow for individual customization.  A guidance document has been created, which provides suggestions on how the materials may be customized and instructions for printing.

For training staff and others on the Plan to Be Safe Campaign a flipchart training tool has been developed.  The flipchart is also available in Spanish.  For a sample hardcopy, please contact Montgomery APC.

As part of an overall training effort, Lord Fairfax, Virginia, Health District has produced a modified version of the flipchart that may also be helpful for folks using the materials.  Click here to download the file.
