Project Description Holiday Park is Montgomery County's largest senior center, serving more than 500 adults over the age of 55 daily. There are numerous drop-in and pre-registration programs offered, including health and wellness lectures, travelogues, finance management counseling, and musical performances, just to name a few. Holiday Park is centrally located in Montgomery County, and serves as a resource facility for many ethnic, wellness support and special interest groups. The Center is about to undergo a storm water retro-fit project. This project provides for the installation of five stormwater Best Management Practice (BMP's) facilities on the site of the Senior Center. Installation will include 1 Bio-filter, 1 Bioswale, 3 above ground sand filters and associated RCP piping, concrete manholes, diversion structures and trench drains. The purpose of the BMP installation is to collect storm water run-off from the impervious surfaces of the site i.e. the parking lot and the roof. The water will be collected in the BMP’s, cleaned by filtering down through a sand and gravel media, then, by way of underground piping, the cleaned water is released into the storm water drainage piping which is already in-place. The Bioswale and Biofilter will be planted with esthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly plants. The project was started on August 16, 2012 and is expected to take 7 months to complete, weather permitting. Stormwater management (ponds, underground structures, dry ponds, wetlands, detention basins) Stormwater management facilities are structures that are used to remove pollutants, prevent stream damage and erosion, prevent flooding, and protect public health. The structures can be on the surface (e.g., wet and dry ponds, bioretention basins, sand filters) or underground (e.g., infiltration trenches, oil-grit separators, and underground storage structures). The Contractor has installed the sediment control devices to prevent erosion and storm water contamination. Excavation has begun to cut-in the roadway for access to the Best Management Practices (BMP’s) or above-ground sand filters. The Contractor is currently verifying spot elevations in preparation for the installation of manholes and associated piping. Project Images
