RainScapes for Landscape Professionals and RainScapes Gazette

Landscape professionals are key to the success of widespread adoption of Rainscapes on private property throughout the County. Rainscapes is an example of environmental site design, a key required element in the County’s stormwater permit. This page offers information on training offered to landscape professionals to install Rainscapes.

Classroom Courses

The RainScapes Program offers a Contractor Training seminar for the purpose of educating contractors who are interested in or who have been providing services pertaining to RainScapes practices, whether it is design, installation, or materials supply.

Course content includes information on rebate funding, the application process, and our evaluation criteria for projects. Additional material covered includes an introduction to low impact development, stormwater management, and RainScapes techniques, information on the scope of the impact of stormwater on Montgomery County and the opportunities for landscape contractors to work in the stormwater management field. Information on appropriate plants for stormwater management, rain garden construction, types of green roofs, permeable pavement systems, and water harvesting systems are also covered.

Find a list of contractors who have attended the RainScapes Contractor Training Classroom course below. There may be other contractors in the county who are qualified to perform services related to the RainScapes Program program but they did not attend the seminar. Please check references of all service providers.

Field Days

Field days are a way to take the material covered in the classroom and apply it at an actual site. During a field day, site evaluation skills for placing a rain garden, conservation landscape, water harvesting and other ESD practices will be reviewed on-site and then the class will either construct a rain garden using materials provided by DEP or participate in a site assessment - rain garden/RainScapes design charette. Bringing tools and wheelbarrows is recommended for this class. A list of suggested equipment will be sent to registered participants prior to class.
