  Project Description

The Silver Spring Civic Building is the center of community activities and events in downtown Silver Spring.  Managed and scheduled by the County Government and the Community Use of Public Facilities, the building provides community meeting space and office space for the Silver Spring Regional Services Center staff.  The Civic Building is located adjacent to Veterans' Plaza, which provides outdoor space for the community, outdoor concerts, movies and other public events.  This project is part of a multi-project effort by Montgomery County to support the retail-oriented redevelopment of the Silver Spring Central Business District (CBD).

The Plaza contains a Pavilion and a permanent ice skating rink. The rink is planned to open to the public on November 20, 2010 for its first season. The Veterans' Plaza will include a memorial commemorating the service of veterans of Silver Spring and Montgomery County, planned for an unveiling on Memorial Day, 2011.  The memorial hosts art work by Toby Mendez (a Frederick County artist who did the Thurgood Marshall Memorial at the State Capitol).

A  large Great Hall is available for banquets, performances and other meetings and presentations. There are four other community use rooms including a gallery space.  The Silver Spring Regional Center is now located in the upper floor of the Civic Building.  The Round House Theatre School is located in the lower level of the Civic Building.  Rental inquiries should be made to Mindy Williams at 240-777-5315 or the Community Use of Public Facilities staff.
