Charles W. Thompson, Jr., County Attorney

Received B.A. in History from VMI; J.D. from the University of Baltimore Law School (1974). Admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1974; appointed County Attorney in 1995; previously County Attorney for Carroll County (1978-1995). Also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for Maryland, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Member of the American, Maryland, and Montgomery County Bar Associations. Chair of the Maryland Bar Association State and Local Government Law Section (1981-1997); member of the Maryland Bar Association (Chair, 1998-99) and Montgomery County Committees on Ethics; member and past president of the Maryland County Civil Attorneys; past president of the Carroll County Bar Association; member of the Board of Directors of IMLA; member, Maryland Bar Foundation. Previously was the Recent Developments Editor of the University of Baltimore Law Review; member of the Governor's Task Force on Antitrust Immunity (1982); member of the Baltimore County Charter Review Commission (1990). Past president of the Carroll County Unit of the American Cancer Society. Areas of concentration are land use and local government law
