Licensing & Registration: New Home Builders

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Introduction

Who Must be Licensed?

Chapter 31C of the Montgomery County Code requires that any builder who constructs new homes or acts in the capacity of a building contractor be licensed.

What's the Process?

The licensing process begins at the Office of Consumer Protection. The Office distributes a Builder's letter explaining the process, an Application for Building Contractor's License form  and a Material Supplier Reference form and processes the completed forms, which must be accompanied by a License fee of $805.00. The Board of Registration, which is comprised of qualified citizen volunteers and meets monthly, considers each License application to determine whether the applicant is qualified to comply with applicable building codes and to fully perform building contracts. Licenses are valid for a period of 2 years.
