Therapeutic Recreation Volunteer
Volunteers are a very important part of therapeutic recreation services.
Therapeutic Recreation Volunteer

TR Camp Assistant Summer Volunteer. Are you a teen who's interested in teaching special education? Do you go to school with a student with a disability but didn't know how to approach him or her? You can gain valuable experience by providing general assistance and support in a Therapeutic Recreation camp designed for children with physical, developmental, or learning disabilities. You must be at least 14 by the start of the program session.

Teens can experience, first hand, the satisfaction of helping children with disabilities gain the most from their summer. You can enjoy, learn and contribute in giving a child with a disability the opportunity to intergrate into one of the summer camps, clinics or summer fun centers. You must be at least 14 by the start of the program session. If you want to volunteer for multiple sessions, please contact the volunteer coordinator Marco D'Ottavi. 240-777-6891

Leadership Training for TR volunteers. This interactive training will help prepare volunteers to work with children with disabilities in our summer programs. The workshop will focus on leadership and communication skills as well as disability and sensativity awareness. Student Service hours will be awarded for the training when you complete your volunteer service.

Ages 14-16: The Junior Counselor Program is the ultimate volunteer experience. Teens train to become recreation leaders by providing assistance to our summer programs. Increase your confidence while developing communication and leadership skills. The All Star Camp serves children between the ages of 8 and 12. Registrants must make a two week commitment with the exception of the session that begins on July 30th. Student Service Learning hours may be earned upon successful completion of the program. Only two Junior Counselors per session will be placed at each site. NOTE: ELIGIBLE JUNIOR COUNSELORS MUST HAVE PREVIOUSLY SERVED AS A CIT THROUGH THE MCRD TEEN VOLUNTEER PROGRAM. REGISTRATION IS LIMITED TO TWO SESSIONS ONLY! Program sites are subject to change, due to MCPS schedule.
