• March 31, 2013  - Welcome to the 17th edition of The Rice Report, an opportunity for you to find out what’s happening in my office, your office here in Rockville. Included in this report is: the recent Acquisition of the Montgomery Village Golf Course • Pre-budget meeting with the Montgomery County Council of Parent Teacher Associations (MCCPTA): Achievement Gap /At Risk Children • Police District 5’s Commander Luther Reynolds promoted to Assistant Chief of Police • Comments on the County Executive’s FY14 proposed budget: Libraries/ School Resource Officers • and Regional Transportation Funding Testimony in Annapolis.

• January 3, 2013 - Welcome to the 16th edition of The Rice Report, an update and summary of current, pending and on-going issues our county and the Council are facing. Included in this report is: an update on Councilmember Rice's recent Germantown Town Hall Meeting • overview of Wood Middle School students participating in a Council Mentoring Program • information on the upcoming County Executive’s Budget Forums • warning of recent rash of car thefts in Germantown• meeting with Congressman Sarbanes and the County Council • need for state transportation funding to be a priority for Montgomery County • and commitment to increase number of School Resource Officers in our schools.

• August 29, 2012 - Welcome to the thirteenth (13th) edition of The Rice Report covering the consequences of passing school buses when they are stopped, Coal Tar Sealant legislation coming before council in September, upcoming community meetings scheduled in Clarksburg (September 19th), North Potomac jointly with Councilmember Phil Andrews (October 3rd), introduction of new farmer pilot project and 2012 vote and local ballot.

• May 24, 2012 - Welcome to the twelfth edition of The Rice Report. This is a special edition of The Rice Report outlining the County Council’s adoption of the FY13 operating budget. The video outlines the council’s support of libraries, “safety net” services, Fire & Rescue and Police departments, MCPS, Montgomery College, and health and human services, particularly seniors and at risk youth.

• May 1, 2012 - Welcome to the eleventh edition of The Rice Report. In this month’s report I discuss on going budget negotiations: the County’s capital and operating budgets as well as the State’s doomsday budget, recent educational accomplishments in District 2, the Maryland Turkish American Inhabitants (Marti) Annual Peace and Dialogue Awards Ceremony, Sugarloaf’s Annual Civic Association’s focus on the environment and the fact that the Agricultural Reserve (AG) is here to stay, the Germantown Tennis/Soccer Plex and the importance of take your child to work day.

• March 13, 2012 - The 10th edition of the Rice Report which is dedicated to Stopping the Pension Shift (the State will no longer fund teacher pensions but will shift the cost the County if this Bill is enacted.) Public safety concerns in Montgomery Village and the need for School Resource Officers (SROs) in all of our High Schools and Middle Schools. There is an update on Libraries and more…

• January 11, 2012 - Nineth Edition... Topics include: This is the ninth edition of the Rice Report for District 2 since my 2010 election as your County Councilmember. The video is a brief synopsis of some of our accomplishments in Clarksburg, Germantown, Olney, Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village. It also includes some interesting information about some of the on-going challenges we will face during 2012. Please take a look and send me any comments or suggestions you want to share.

• November 16, 2011 - Eighth Edition... Topics include: Important milestones in Clarksburg, Germantown, work on safe and accessible fields in Germantown, anticipating the 2012 Session the Maryland General Assembly, economic development, fighting hunger during the holidays and all year.
• July 27, 2011 - Seventh Edition... Topics include: Recent Changes to the Scope of Collective Bargaining with the Police Department, Clarksburg..."Promises in Progress", Miracle League Baseball Field that is coming to Germantown, Summer of Mercy Protests, and an Update on the on-going Community Program work during Council recess...The School Resource Officers, The Fire Department's Fill the Boot program and the Smart and Aggressive Economic Development Plans for our Community in the Bio-Technology Sector.

• June 30, 2011 - Sixth Edition...Updates on issues and happenings that have recently come before the Montgomery County Council including: FY2011 Budget Accomplishments, Measured cuts for Health and Human Services, Libraries, Montgomery College (Rated number one in the Nation), Clarksburg Accomplishments….retail is coming to Clarksburg, all nine County Councilmembers worked to put Stringtown Road on the fast tract for improvement list to be completed by the end of July 2011. Disability Retirement Reform and collective bargaining among the Fraternal Order of Police and the County Executive, School Resource Officers in our Schools, Budget Reforms for next year and on-going work with the Maryland Association of Counties.
