Awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to recycling
Gregory Bassett, Department of Recreation
Greg has worked single-handedly to make sure that every County recreation
facility has a recycling program in place. In addition, he takes it
upon himself to ensure that all staff at these facilities are aware
of the recycling program and its requirements.
Sally O'Brien, Thurgood Marshall Elementary School
Ms. O'Brien is the Evening Building Services Manager. She has taken
the initiative and works tirelessly to ensure recycling awareness to
her school. She organized the Recycling Olympics, and has offered gold,
silver and bronze recycling bins as prizes.
Zachary Russ, who is 12-years old, is a 6th grade student,
at Takoma Park Middle School. He is not only aware of the importance
of recycling, but took the time to design a brochure on how to set up,
maintain and monitor a successful recycling program. This brochure is
so well thought out and organized that it could be used for schools
or any other organization. It was the Principal, Ms. Linda Perie, who
took the time to write us a letter and brought to our attention Zachary's
Paul Scott, Beall Elementary School
Mr. Scott is the Building Services Manager, and has made outstanding
contributions to his school's recycling program. He has created recycling
displays for each floor of the school, and the bins are overflowing
with recyclable materials.
