Reason for being recognized: Mr. Bolcombe has assumed the coordination of recycling in his work place. This is a responsibility that he added to his regular job duties, and includes monitoring the collection of recyclables and educating his co-workers about the program. He is known as "the recycling man" throughout his office.

Reason for being recognized: As Recycling Coordinator, Aubrey expanded the County's Fleet Management recycling program to include recycling of tires, motor oil, batteries, ferrous and non-ferrous metal and antifreeze, bringing the recycling rates at his two facilities from 23 percent in 2000 to 82 percent in 2001.

Reason for being recognized: Ms. Brodie's dedication to the recycling effort and conscientious work with the building occupants and her staff, have contributed to the high recycling rates at the Executive Office Building (85 percent), Council Office Building (53 percent), and Judicial Center (56 percent).

Reason for being recognized: Federal Realty Investment Trust participated enthusiastically as key players in a County model recycling bin study program for a number of Bethesda Row restaurants. Without any program to start with, property manager Karen DeCarvalho and Avi Asperah dealt with space constraints and were open to any suggestions for improving the program. Immediate results were achieved and after a few months of participation, Federal Realty had to increase the size of their recycling containers.

Reason for being recognized: Mr. Fitzwater was instrumental in putting into place the used book recycling program at the four regional libraries. In 2001, the libraries recycled over 234,000 pounds of used books resulting in a recycling rate of 57 percent.

Reason for being recognized: This management company for MacArthur Plaza placed an informative recycling section in their new tenant handbook. With limited space, Garret & Smith managed to place their mixed paper and commingled materials recycling containers in a very convenient location for all of their tenants, creating an effective and well utilized recycling program.

Reason for being recognized: Mr. Giron has shown initiative since the onset of reviving the recycling program at the Montgomery Village Shopping Center. He has strived to help improve the recycling rate by personally talking with and re-educating the tenants. He constantly shows the tenants and cleaning staff where to dispose of the recyclable items on the premises and he also monitors trash dumpsters and recycling containers for proper usage.

Reason for being recognized: As recycling coordinator of the County's 30 leased Child Care centers, Ms. Hamm has improved recycling at the centers by incorporating language into all new leases requiring the provider to recycle and by conducting annual meetings with daycare providers to re-inforce waste reduction and recycling measures.

Reason for being recognized: As general manager of Lakeforest Mall, Ms. Julier has made continuous efforts to promote recycling in every mall store. Her monthly newsletters and periodic memos inform tenants of their mixed paper and commingled materials recycling programs and their requirements. Having the invested interest and encouragement of the management is essential to maintain an effective recycling program.

Reason for being recognized: Ms. Klein demonstrates great initiative by taking on the responsibility of monitoring the recycling program and promoting awareness to all tenants in the building. Monique monitors the program inside and outside the building using creative techniques to correct any misuse.

Reason for being recognized: Ms. Landers is a true recycling advocate. Her enthusiasm has resulted in the building’s recycling program to soar to high heights in just over three months. She conducts power point presentations on recycling and incorporates recycling in her tenant guide for new employees.

Reason for being recognized: Mr. Marks is recognized for his outstanding efforts during the past two years in working with all County facilities to improve their recycling programs, striving to achieve the County’s goal of recycling 50 percent.

Reason for being recognized: This facilities manager worked creatively with very limited storage space for recyclable materials. Mr. Neeley acted with urgency and enthusiasm to get a recycling program started quickly with ongoing training for all staff.

Reason for being recognized: As the property manager for Metropolitan Place Office Condominiums, Ms. O'Rourke has been continuously receptive to increasing recycling efforts. Ms. O'Rourke decreased the size of their trash containers and increased the size of their recycling containers, and saved money as a result. This occurred just months after tenant education sparked high participation in their recycling program. As a result of her efforts, the building had a 61 percent recycling rate in 2001.

Reason for being recognized: For her outstanding leadership in spear-heading the effort to increase the level of recycling activity at her worksite in Rockville. After sponsoring a recycling kick-off event in 2001, the recycling rates for the 30 HHS facilities that Terrye oversees went from 50 percent to 59 percent by January 2002.

Reason for being recognized: Mr. Wallenstein is recognized for his outstanding leadership in identifying and implementing new programs, attempting to reach a 90 percent recycling goal for his department.

Reason for being recognized: Mr. Williams is very enthusiastic about recycling. He is a motivator for his co-workers who kindly call him "the recycling man". He makes labels and recycling boxes for their mixed paper and commingled materials recycling program.
