Awards given by Solid Waste Services
1) Property or Individual: 529 Dale Drive ApartmentsReason for being recognized: The property manager, Michael Nakale, provides new and current information to his tenants on recycling. Accessible and well labeled containers make it easy for the residents to achieve their 65 percent recycling rate.
2) Property or Individual: Classic Residence by Hyatt
Award Type: Excellence in Recycling
Reason for being recognized: The Classic Residence by Hyatt has achieved the highest recycling rate among all properties, at an astounding 84.5 percent. The residents are so recycling cognizant that they police each other and monitor trash to ensure proper disposal. Management continuously educates the residents regarding recycling procedures via monthly memorandums which outline program improvements and have instituted a "Welcoming Committee" to inform new residents of the recycling program requirements.
3) Property or Individual: COCO of the Waterford
Award Type: Excellence in Recycling
Reason for being recognized: With a mere 6.8 percent recycling rate in 2000, the Waterford Condominium has revamped their program and have now acheived an astonishing 56 percent recycling rate in 2001.
4) Property or Individual: Cole Spring Plaza
Award Type: Excellence in Recycling
Reason for being recognized: Dametrice Jones, the property manager of Cole Spring Plaza, keeps residents informed with new recycling information and plenty of recycling containers at their disposal. They surpassed the County's goal with a 55 percent recycling rate in 2001.
5) Property or Individual: Colesville Towers
Award Type: Excellence in Recycling
Reason for being recognized: Upon arrival for new residents, Colesville Towers' property manager, Gail Fields, and her staff show their tenants where the recycling areas are. With a positive evaluation, good management and effective outreach efforts the property achieved the County's goal of recycling 50 percent in 2001.
6) Property or Individual: Lakeside Terrace Condominium
Award Type: Excellence in Recycling
Reason for being recognized: The Lakeside Terrace Condominium management sent a notice to residents outlining reeducated efforts, and included the letter in their monthly newsletter and new resident information packets. Staff and management are dedicated to continuing their oustanding efforts in recycling, remaining part of the County’s recycling solution with a 64 percent recycling rate in 2001.
7) Property or Individual: The Willoughby of Chevy Chase Condominiums
Award Type: Excellence in Recycling
Reason for being recognized: The Willoughby of Chevy Chase Condominiums has taken an aggressive approach to improve resident participation in their recycling program. Through their in-house television channel, management informs residents about their program requirements and have installed new recycling containers and signs to enhance the program. As a result this property’s rate has improved from 21 percent in 2000 to 61 percent in 2001.
