Tour the Recycling Center

Visit our award-winning Recycling Center and take a tour. It's free!

Guided tours are available to groups of 10 or more, Monday through Thursday, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Please call 301-417-1433 to schedule a time.

Individuals are welcome to visit at any time without an appointment, weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The Recycling Center typically does not operate on Fridays. If you are planning a Friday visit, please call the Center at 301-417-1433.

Groups ranging in age from preschoolers to seniors have enjoyed visiting the Recycling Center, and have hailed from all over the world.

Allow one hour for guided tours. The first part of the visit includes an age-appropriate presentation addressing recycling, reuse, and waste reduction. Then, visitors head upstairs to view the Center's sorting machinery. Please note that the Recycling Center is wheel chair accessible (it's helpful for us to know of your needs in advance).

Location

The Recycling Center is located at:

16105 Frederick Rd
Derwood, MD 20855

This is just south of the intersection of Frederick Road and Shady Grove Road.

Helpful Hints for your visit, especially with groups

  • Restroom facilities are limited. Thanks for planning ahead in this regard.
  • There are no picnic/lunch facilities at the Recycling Center.
  • Thank you for arriving on time. Our tour schedule often has back-to-back tours.
