Curbside Recycling

* "Blue bin" recyclables
*  Paper
*  Scrap metal
*  Yard trimmings

Montgomery County provides once-a-week curbside recycling collection service to all residents of single-family and town homes, except for those in municipalities

Place all recyclables at the curb by 7 a.m. on your recycling day. All items for collection must be placed directly at the curb, or unobstructed on your property, within 10 feet of the curb.

Unsure about your recycling day? Use our Collection Day Lookup tool. Or, call Montgomery County's Customer Service Center at 311 (out-of-County: 240-777-0311, TTY: 301-251-4850).

Instructions for paint disposal

Need a new bin?

Your blue bin belongs to your current house.  Please leave your bin behind if you move to a new residence.

If you move into a house without a recycling bin, order a new bin on-line or call Montgomery County's Customer Service Center at 311 (out-of-County: 240-777-0311, TTY: 301-251-4850).

My bin's too small!

Sometimes, one blue bin is just not enough for the recyclables you generate during the week.  If this occurs on a regular basis, you may want a second bin.

To get a second one, order on-line or call Montgomery County's Customer Service Center at 311 (out-of-County: 240-777-0311, TTY: 301-251-4850).

If the overflow happens occasionally:

  • Put your extra recyclables into a cardboard box or paper bag.
  • Label the box or bag clearly with "Recycling"
  • When you set your items at the curb, make sure that your label faces the street so that the truck driver can see it.
  • Please don't use plastic bags for your extra recyclables.

The maximum weight for recycling containers is 45 pounds.

All materials collected at the curb are also accepted at the Shady Grove Processing Facility and Transfer Station.  You may drop your excess materials off in the Public Unloading Area 7 days a week.
