Awards given by Solid Waste Services
Awarded to individuals who significantly increased recycling awareness and motivated others in the community to maximize their recycling, waste reduction and buying recycled efforts
Ms. Yi Chen
Ms. Yi Chen has been a volunteer with the Recycling Volunteer Program since 2009. Ms. Chen volunteered 43 hours of her time during the 2011 Montgomery Agricultural Fair, providing information about the County’s recycling program to residents. Since 2009, Yi has contributed 80 hours of her time to the recycling volunteer program.
Ms. Elizabeth Golder
Ms. Elizabeth Golder provided more than 183 hours of service to the Division of Solid Waste Services and that was in 2011 alone. Since 2004, Ms. Golder has provided more than 463 hours of her time assisting the Division of Solid Waste Services with office projects such as data entry needs, filing, labeling and bundling of educational materials.
Ms. Heidi Johnson
Ms. Heidi Johnson has been a long-time volunteer with the Recycling Volunteer Program. Since 2004, Ms. Johnson has donated over 100 hours of her time to the Recycling Volunteer Program.
Mr. Brian Kao
Mr. Brian Kao is another example of an amazing recycling volunteer. In 2011, Mr. Kao’s volunteer service is equivalent to $20,325 in service to the Division of Solid Waste Services – that’s a total of 813 hours of direct service provided in 2011 alone. Since 2010. Mr. Kao has contributed more than 1,820 hours of his time assisting with a variety of office-related projects such as scanning, label making, and bundling educational materials.
Ms. Gina Lancaster
Ms. Gina Lancaster, Marketing Team Leader for Whole Foods in Rockville, has taken charge to ensure her customers are environmentally aware by providing them with access to educational opportunities. Ms. Lancaster has been instrumental in coordinating a series of yard trim composting workshops to educate customers about the proper do’s and don’t’s of composting yard waste – all in an effort to reduce the amount of yard trim generated.
