Awards: 2002 Outstanding Achievement in Recycling at Multi-Family Properties

Awards given by Solid Waste Services

1) Property or Individual: Minnie Bell McIntosh, Marriott Bedford Court
Award Type: Outstanding Achievement, individual

Reason for being recognized: Ms. McIntosh, a long-time Bedford Court resident at the age of 95 has single handedly taken over the recycling program at this senior living assistant dwelling. Her enthusiasm and creativity has lifted Bedford Court’s recycling rate to 55 percent in 2001.

2) Property or Individual: Sharon Jackson, Towne Crest Apartments
Award Type: Outstanding Achievement, individual

Reason for being recognized: Ms. Jackson’s motto is "The key to a successful recycling program is knowing your residents from day one." After 14 years of managing this property, Sharon has achieved an outstanding 67 precent recycling rate by getting her residents involved in the program right from the beginning. Management and staff at Towne Crest take advantage of the County’s resources, using recycling posters, brochures, signs and bins to educate their residents. The recycling containers are accessible and conveniently located next to the trash containers, which are monitored daily.
