Resource Recovery Facility: Environmental Issues

Water

The Montgomery County Resource Recovery Facility takes all of its water for plant operations directly from a man-made canal which carries the neighboring Mirant Power Plant discharge water to the Potomac River. The Facility's water and wastewater treatment operation has no added impact on the river. The process water for the plant goes through the in-house water treatment facility shown here prior to being used in the plant. All water leaving the facility is returned to the Mirant canal after being treated. Potable (drinking) water is brought in from an on-site well.
