Montgomery County Compost Facility: Online Tour

After it has been ground, the yard trim is loaded into trucks or the daily train in the Rail Yard.

The trucks deliver the yard trim directly to the Dickerson Composting Facility. The daily train delivers Yard Trim material and Solid Waste (trash meant for burning) to the Resource Recovery Facility.

Once the train arrives in the Rail Yard at the Resource Recovery Facility, the containers with yard trim material are delivered by Resource Recovery Facility employees to the Compost Facility, which is directly next door.

In Fiscal Year 2010, 47% of the material received at the Compost Facility was delivered by train.
