Pollution Control

photo: rear of the RRF plant A forced draft fan supplies the primary combustion air underneath the grate. In addition, overfire air is injected through the front and rear walls of the furnace. A final induced draft air fan pulls the gasses from the boiler and directs them to the emission control equipment.

Using lime slurry, the dry scrubber neutralizes any acid-forming gasses, such as sulfur oxides and hydrogen chloride. Nitrous oxides are removed through a selected noncatalytic control reduction (SNCR) system utilizing ammonia to mix with the flue gasses. Mercury emissions are also controlled through the use of activated carbon. Next, particulates are captured by a high-efficiency baghouse.
