Yard Trim/Brush

Leaves being unloaded at the Compost Facility "Yard Trimmings", leaves, grass, and brush are managed separately at the Transfer Station. "Tub grinders" are used to mix and grind the "yard trim" material. Ground tree limbs and brush used to create mulch, which is given away for free to commercial vendors and to citizens. This free mulch is available at Neighborhood Mulch Preserves located at the Recycling Center and at satellite sites around the County. Ground yard trim is transported by rail or truck to the Dickerson Composting Facility, where it is composted and screened to produce Leafgro, a high quality soil conditioner. A portion of the leaves collected by the County under its Curbside Leaf Vacumming Program are deposited at the Transfer Station and shipped via truck to the compost facility.
