recycling collection for all single-family homes and townhomes.
To find your recycling collection day, use our Collection Day Lookup tool. Or, call Montgomery County's Customer Service Center at 311 (out-of-County: 240-777-0311, TTY: 240-773-3556).

We encourage you to handle your yard trim by grasscycling,
composting and mulching.
If you live in an apartment
or condominium, check with your property manager for recycling collection information for your building or complex.
If you live in a municipality, please check with your
local town or city office for recycling collection details.
Trash Collection
In its southern parts, Montgomery County provides trash
collection service through contracts with independent refuse collection
companies. Collection fees and prepaid disposal charges are included on
your property tax bill. Trash collection in these areas is once a week,
and occurs on the same day as your recycling day.
In the remainder of the County, residents contract with and pay independent
trash collection companies or haulers. Look in the phone book under "Rubbish
and Garbage Removal" for names of companies. As you negotiate your
contract, note that the amount you pay your hauler should be for collection
services only. You are already paying for the cost of disposal through
the prepaid disposal charge that is paid through your property tax bill.
To find out whether you are in the County trash collection area or whether
you need to contract individually for your own service, use our Collection Day Lookup tool. Or, call Montgomery County's Customer Service Center at 311 (out-of-County: 240-777-0311, TTY: 240-773-3556).
If you live in an apartment
or condominium, check with your property manager for trash collection information for your building or complex.
If you live in a municipality, please check with your
local town or city office for trash collection details.
Recycling and Trash Collection Holidays
There are seven "collection
holidays" which may cause your collection day for Montgomery County-provided services to change.
These are: New Years Day; Martin Luther King, Jr., Day; Memorial Day; Independence Day; Labor Day; Thanksgiving
Day; and Christmas Day.
If you (or your community) have a private contract for your trash collection, our schedule announcements may not apply to your trash service -- check with your hauler or community manager.

Disposing of moving boxes
If you have curbside
paper collection, you may set your moving boxes out for collection on your recycling day.
Disposing of chemicals and paints
In the process of unpacking, you may find yourself with paints, herbicides, pesticides, and other products you no longer need
or want. Or, the previous residents of your home may have left some
of these products behind. Proper disposal of household hazardous
wastes is very important to human and pet health, and to that of the environment.
Simply take your unwanted products to one of the County's
Household Hazardous Waste collection sites at no charge!
Recycling at work
Remember to recycle at work, too. In fact, businesses in Montgomery
County are required to recycle. Learn more about our Non-Residential
Recycling Program.
